June 10th,

We had a good afternoon, despite the rain, which meant we could not go to the garden where we supposed to be having tea in, instead we were in the Hall and Alison, who was home from Phnom Phem, Cambodia, where she lives with her partner. She told us about their day to day life in a very different city, the food they eat, the market where they shop, buy your chicken alive, the stall holder does do the necessary, how they get about. Some peoples day was made as she said to be over weight was a good thing in a country where there had been starvation and terrible hunger for many She then went on to talk about their work with abused girls from an orphanage and children. Teaching them Yoga to give confidence and improve their well being, also English and life skills so that they can go on to live rewarding lives. Cambodia is recovering from long years of civil war, the killing fields, and so many awful thing, that left many lives destroyed, but the country is being rebuilt and becoming a stable safe and very beautiful place to live.

Wedding Day

WE CELEBRATED THE ROYAL WEDDING

After a lot of work the TV was set up to project on to a big screen, ready for the big day, 55 members and helpers were there, and were settled down with a cup of tea or coffee with buns iced with red white and blue or macaroons (red, white or blue of course)by 10.30 we were all ready for it to begin. Every one enjoyed the show and found the service very moving, once the happy couple were back at Buckingham Palace we moved to the other hall for lunch of Coronation Chicken, New Potatoes and Salad followed by a wonderful selection of puddings, we were finished lunch in time for every one to go back and see the kiss on the balcony.

It was Jean's Birthday so we gave her a bunch of red, white and blue flowers.

This afternoon, Paul a dog handler came to tell us about the work these dogs do, he bought a large German Shepherd, who works as an attach dog, we saw a DVD showing these brave dogs in action, facing fir and criminals with guns, wonderful pictures of him leaping over a car and flattening the criminal, I would not like to be on the receiving end. We then met a Labrador bitch who is a sniffer dog, she found some cannabis that had been hidden in the room, we were aloud to meet he properly, the German Shepperd might have had our fingers, we were told that when looking for people in Marks and Spencer's he helped himself to a couple of steak pies.
I think every one enjoyed the afternoon, they had a good tea, three members cerebrated their birthdays.

Saturday, 12 February 2011

It seems long time since I added anything. Our Christams lunch went well, Rum punch and nibbles, then sat down to roast turkey and all the trimmings, followed by triffle, mince pies with tea or coffee then we were entertained by Mark, Ann Woods friend on the piano, joining in carols and hearing some old favorites, sadly no one took pictures.
We don't meet in January, first meeting was Febuary 4th, tea & chat with a quize we were low on numbers, bad time of year, lots of folk unwell, but a good time was had.

Long time since I up dated, some of us went to Polhill to shop and have tea together, for once it was not raining, presents were bought, Julie bought herself a new chair, to curl up in front of the fire in with a good book, but she won't get it for a bit. The following week we had some ladies demonstrating Scottish Dancing, ind that the snow is all gone.including Julia and the lovely Wendy their leader. A fortnight later Fosse Bank School came and sang Carols. On Friday it is the Christmas Lunch, lets hope they are all fit and able to come and the snow is all gone.
